HackMMO

If you can see them, they can see you.

A persistent multiplayer world built on a full IPv4 stack — 4 billion routable addresses, every machine a MIXOS machine.

The world did not end. It got expensive, unstable, and quietly rearranged around the people who could afford to stay insulated from the consequences.

Private capital filled what the states couldn't. Your ISP, your healthcare portal, the search engine that decides what's true — most of them answer to a short list of names, running on a short list of networks, indexed by a short list of databases.

You lost your job in the last round of automation. There is an underground out there — co-ops, grey-market clinics, journalists still filing, communities organizing around what the corporate market decided wasn't worth serving — and they could use someone who knows how the machines work.

§01

The World

Four pillars of the simulation.

[01]

A Real Internet to Hide In

The full IPv4 address space — 4 billion routable destinations, persistent across players. Scan subnets nobody has mapped. Find machines nobody is watching. Route around the parts of the network that are watching back.

[02]

Learn Computing Skills

Every host runs a simulated OS with real services, a real filesystem, and real vulnerabilities. Enumerate ports. Exploit what's listening. Read the files. The data on a corporate fileshare is the data the corporation actually keeps there — emails, contracts, things they didn't mean to leave open.

[03]

Face Off in PvP

Players can find your machine. You can find theirs. Every connection is real traffic on a simulated network, and every intrusion leaves a trail somebody can follow back. Pick your fights. Cover your tracks. Some people are worth helping. Some are worth burning.

[04]

An Economy Off the Books

Trade exploits, sell access, get paid in Null — the underground currency the regulators haven't figured out how to seize yet. Every transaction is on the in-game chain. None of it is on the books that matter.

§02

What You Do

The work is technical. The reasons aren't.

$ ./complete_jobs

Complete Jobs

Scan ports. Exploit services. Escalate privileges. Pull the files that prove what the press release didn't say. Every target is a live machine; nothing is staged.

$ ./make_change

Make a Difference

Take contracts from people the system left behind. Tweak a medication shipment for those who need it. Get a journalist a source. Get a stranger a way out. The underground runs on people who show up.

$ man ripper

Keep Learning

Your ability in the game scales with your knowledge of computing! Learn to read logs, understand filesystems and permissions, and deal with networking concepts.
